Did anybody ever have to change the drain tube on the bottom of the transom? I came back Sunday from fishing and when I took the drain plug out the actually 1/2 then drain tube came out with it now I have to replace it. I ordered the parts on Amazon just wondering how difficult it would be.

I've done it several times, but now I use epoxy coated pvc tubing instead. Pathfinder boats uses this method and I believe it does a better job of sealing the transom. Just find the correct size of pvc for your rubber plug to fit(cant remember size off hand), open up the transom hole size with a hole saw(also easy way to remove the brass tube). Dry it out well(either method). Coat the pvc with epoxy(silicone for eth brass tube) and install. With the brass tube, you will need to cut it to fit and flare the ends, they make a tool for this. With the pvc, let it dry, then cut to fit, sand to get a closer fit

Do you feel the pvc tube is better or easier, I ordered the kit from Amazon 3 inch tube, adhesive and flaring tool , the hole that the tube was I I did pull out the half of the tube that was left in and the wood in the tube is wet so I'm letting it dry .

I did the PVC tube in my Whaler. Works great, did it exactly like Spare described. Test fit the rubber plug, but i used 3/4 PR200 pipe, thin wall. Do not use sch 40 id is too small
I believe i used a rat tail file in a drill to expand and clean up my existing hole. Coated hole with thinned epoxy, then coated pvc with slightly thickened epoxy and inserted and rotated to smear goo I ll try to get a pic tomorrow |

So the tubes are not flared at the ends, just insert the tube and what kind of epoxy do you use? The name and you use the same stuff to coat the inside of the hole and the outside of the tube,
So you have the tube sticking out and cut in even with the hull, sounds good and easy too

If you already have the brass tube coming, go ahead and use it, it lasted this long. I used life caulk on the last one I did. For the pvc, I generally have some west system laying around

Your gonna need a flaring tool for the brass tube install

I have it coming, Amazon sells the tube, the flaring tool and 1 oz of 5200 it's all coming . I never used the flaring tool but on you tube the flared end goes inside the boat and you flare the outside I hope it works out good. My boat is a 78 so like you I figured if it lasted over 40 years I will just replace it with the brass sleeve but I do like your PVC pipe idea it sounds very good.
