Default 1975 saddle tank question

My 75 is equipped with the two saddle tanks what I want to do is change my valve location and type has anybody experimented with this where did they locate their valve and what valve did you use my current valve is in the center of the rear bulkhead, Is this the factory location
3/8 vs 1/4 inlet and outlets

My first v had saddle tanks and was an I/O. As I recall the valve was mounted on the inside of the transom. just above the engine. Never changed the location since it was out of the way.
