G, sounds like a deal. Our favorite way to eat hem is West Indies Salad.
Crabs are definitely a labor of love. We steam them, pick the meat out and then do something with the meat.
We take the claws and crack the shells off of them and fry or sauté in olive oil.

Pain in the tukus, but good eatin

Phat, I have five in the freezer, so this Sunday I will take the claws, crack them open, then throw them in my gravy and have them Sunday with my macaroni along with the ones I will bake, while watching the Giants WIN (maybe). I was thinking of having them Friday along with linguini and Scungilli, since I still don't eat meat on Friday's, figure that one out.

So by gravy, u mean red sauce, right?

Down here it s brown or white flour based with chunks of meat and onions in it.
Your way sounds good

As far as the giants, only a 2 point game right now, maybe the will turn Barkley loose
Good luck

I clean the crabs before I steam them. Everyone thinks im weird. I kill them and take the shell off , clean the lungs and guts out then steam or put in freezer. I figure I don't gut my deer and eat it at the same time so why should I do that with crabs? But all of the fun is catching them, my 7 year old loves it.

Phat, yes sir red sauce (gravy). I know that's a big thing, but we've always called it gravy. My grandmother was from Sicily and it was always Gravy in our house. There are plenty of arguments over sauce or gravy. To me, people call it what they want, does anyone really care, not me.
GRAVY GRAVY !!!

I clean the crabs right at the dock, rip off the backs, take out the dead men, then hose them out, put them in bags for the freezer.

I do the same Oteps, clean the bodies, cut the legs off and steam them with the claws. We usually try to get 3 dozen before we cook them. Got 2 dozen in freezer now

This is the time of year we usually crab until October, the stone crab season starts oct 15

Edit: Just saw your post G, sounds great. Ha “dead man fingers”, thats what my grandmother called the lungs too. There is a member on here, willie, that would post about his family getting together in the fall, harvesting these beautiful jersey tomatoes and making big pots of gravy and canning them for the winter. Looked like good times
