I have an early 90s Yamaha 130 on my steplift. On a calm day, with two light people on board and less than half a tank of gas, I'm topping out at 5300 RPM's and about 32mph. The motor has a hydrofoil on it, so I was going to see if taking that off did anything.
Does this sound about right to you guys, or do you think I could benefit from a change to the prop or tuning of the motor of some kind? Based on what I've been reading it seems you guys are getting a lot more out of similar motors. |

I think the first thing you should do is find out what Yamaha says is the proper RPM for that engine @WOT. Assuming that the engine itself is running properly, once you have that info then you can start dialing in the prop to meet it by switching props. Until then it's really impossible to guess at what your WOT should be.

Pretty sure wot on that engine should be 5000-5500, so 5300 sounds pretty good. And 32mph is about right for that 130. Sounds like you're running right where you should be.
