Default V21 repower

Thinking about a repower...boat Im looking at is reported to have 2 cylinders down on compression and possible scoring. I have an older 185 Airslot with a fresh rebuild of a Johnson 130...big enough for the V21...??

some ppeple are happy with the lower power engines, if I remeber correctly, there was a guy on here that had a single 70 Yamaha on his. Personally, Id run at least a 150, watch your weight when repowering, the weights of newer engine vary a lot

I think a 130 with the right prop would work, I personally wouldn't go any lower than that though.

Cool

My first V20 had a 6 cylinder 65 HP engine in it. Almost would break free, but could NOT get up on plane. I would not go lower than 90 hp personally. Most people here seem to feel that a 150 is perfect for these boats. I like my 200. Can't use that power in the ocean cause of the wave action but on the lakes I like the extra speed.

Hey dizzy, i remember when bigshrimpin was out in California, he was getting some sweet deals on 2strokes because they were banned in freshwater lakes. Might want to search CL around tahoe, see what***8217;s up there.

There are definitely plenty of 2 strokes out here, but after my recent success overhauling the lower unit on the 130, I feel like I can tackle the powerhead.
Ill leave the inspection and the bore/hone/resleeve recommendations to the machine shop but Ill tackle the R&R and the assembly. I have the time to take my time and learn as I go...

How about rigging with twin 70’s

Or triple 40’s

Or quad 25’s

Personally, I think one 7 Marine 626 looks best, but some feel it’s a bit
too much power. Counter with extra weight in the cuddy and it should be
......perfect
