I’ve found lots of BS associated with boats for sale...here are a few funny ones:
1. The hate to see her go.....when it means can’t wait to sell before the problem becomes worse and it becomes hard to sell. 2. The limited pics ad - Hey why no pictures of the deck, seating, helm and cuddy? Could it be because it’s rotted out busted up and looks horrible? 3. The “ in good shape for its age”.....oh that’s a real winner that can mean transom , deck, etc water logged over past 30 years kept in water. 4 “ Freshly cleaned up”.....buyer beware for the good old painted over the rust routine! Got others ? |

Totally agree.
Some others are: "Can't figure out how to post pics" Means: I don't want to show how bad it is. "Small damage, easily fixed" Means: "I got a repair estimate in the thousands." "My loss is your gain" Means: "I got scammed and now I want to unload this POS on someone else." "Engine won't start, probably needs carb. cleaned" Means: There's a 4" hole through the block."

..” As is “......that’s also a good one that can mean lots of things.
Ran good last time used.......uh...when was that 1985 ? And of course the “ limited response to questions “ routine or surly seller. That usually speaks volumes too. |

"new factory power head, still under warranty" just kills me

As of today I’m sticking with my trusted V21.
Back to used boat ads..... How about “ selling for friend “ so don’t know all data but seems solid... Hahahah more likely BS. Or....” great riding hull that so and so considers one of the best performing” ..... Gee that’s nice, but that I/0 is how old....30 years original raw water cooled? I’ll pass :) |

Down here, Rebuilt transom usually means 4 big washers or a piece of aluminum plate

Yes..the transom metal plate is a good one too.
No test ride = no sale to me. My own position on test ride is: 1. Review boat thoroughly 2. Express interest and settle on price pending test ride If boats in water maybe less formal but for trailering got to be reasonable but test ride is a must |

“ price is firm” is interesting.......maybe avoids low ball offers but really - no negotiation?
Everyone wants to feel they got a fair deal so does that mean $ 10,000 but if offered $ 9,900 answer is no ? To each their own.... |

"it just needs a good cleaning" (because I have not taken very good care of it)
