| Last fluke

got out at 7am for the last trip before season closes. went to Axel Carlson reef, throwbacks and keeper sized seabass throwbacks because that closed Aug 31 went to Sea Girt reef. lots of throwbacks but my brother the fluke jinks finally caught a couple nice keepers. This 24 incher was his biggest ever. nothing to fish for until late October...dust off the clubs...

Upon return at 1am home from 300 mile trip Saturday, at 4am I decided to trailer down and give it a go. Went north and picked 2 keepers through lots of the throw back seabass that were hitting everything. Got home, cleaned boat, barbecue, and slept 10 hours. |

Fished about 200 yds off of my dock yesterday. We headed out at 7:00 and had a 3 man limit by 9:00. We played catch and release for a few more hours but couldn't muster anything over 21". We wound up boating 16 keepers altogether, keeping only our limit, and quite a few shorts but nothing under 17". It was one of the best days fluking I've ever had and I don't think we ever had the boat above idle. There were maybe 10 other boats fishing at the most crowded point, meanwhile there was about 300 boats over in Keyport harbor thanks to a few charter guys blabbing on the net. I went again today but I couldn't get anything going because my 17 month old wasn't enjoying himself. My friend got 10 keeps in a few hours today on his boat though.

80 - that's some great fishing on a biomass of fluke all together. This is where limits make sense or the entire area would be fished out quickly. Last year in Raritan, a huge mass of stripers were in one small location while virtually no other keepers caught on the bay that day. Makes one feel like there are fish everywhere but isn't so. Congrats on a great catch - the kind of day we all hope for ! |
