|  Question about wet sanding 
			
			Morning all, I've been getting the boat ready and I'm at the compound and wax stage. I normally compound the hull with a product called Buff Magic which in my opinion is a great product, very expensive but like anything else you get what you pay for! My question is this, just above the rub rail  their is that 3or 4 high section of fiberglass and it's very chaulky and rough like it's really been neglected. It's a tough place to get the polishing wheel on their from both the top side or from a ladder so I was thinking I could just wet sand it with some fine/very fine paper enough to knock it down a bit,then compound it by hand. Am I going in the rite direction with this and if so what number papers should I be using,thanks

			Be careful wet sanding. It's very helpful for you to know the history of the area to be worked, such as having been refinished, original, etc. As it can remove layers quickly. This is the rubbing compound and polish I used in the past. The rubbing compound is not as aggressive as 400 grit sandpaper when wet sanding. If wet sanding is needed this compound and polish has been my next best step. I'd try it first.

			Here is an area that was painted over and then removed by water sanding, buffed with that compound and then polished.

			I'd try some 2000 or 1500 then compound, polish, and wax. I wouldn't go any higher than 1000.

			wash the boat thoroughly before sanding. I dry sand with p800 on my da to start with, be very careful using any power tools. Then I switch to 1200 wet, then 1500 wet. I use biff magic 2000 compound then a good wax. Tape off any hard edges before sanding and do not try to sand out the little black spots, they get bigger the more you sand(you're going thru the gel)

			I did a 1000g then a 1500 g wet sand.  Moved on to compound using a 3m compound and finishing material.  Then a nice 3M wax with scotchguard...
