Default Can you see through your clear vinyl?

Been thinking about this idea for awhile.

Are any of the members here on V20 interested in getting their front panel clear vinyl replaced? I can swap in new 30 gauge rolled double polished clear vinyl using 138 Bonded Dabond thread for $150.00. This will include shipping back to you.

Few things first....
1) maximum height for a front panel 26" however the length doesn't matter.
2)some of the lower snaps might have to removed then reinstalled which I will do before shipping it back to you. This is done so the clear vinyl can be stitched into place without running into the snaps with the needle etc.
3) The 138 Bonded Dabond is a anti-wicking polyester with UV resistance. It's not a PTFE lifetime thread. If you're in a southern state you might want to have me use a PTFE thread which will be $20 more.
4) The 30 gauge rolled vinyl is a very good quality vinyl and works well with the V20. The clarity is fairly good. The 30 gauge is one step thinner then I use on larger sport fisher which is a 40 gauge. However...... It's not pressed vinyl or pressed treated vinyl (strata, O'sea)which is a higher grade vinyl.
5)This job would be done using your existing panel. This way your snaps and zippers will stay in place so everything will fit. Only thing changing is the clear vinyl.
6) I will ship back to you via UPS.

Here are a few photos of the 30 gauge used in a front V20 panel.

Not sure if this would be of any interest to anyone.
If you have any question or interest in having the work done you can PM me or email me at

I checked in with MacoJoe to make sure I wasn't breaking any rules.

Great deal for members and it keeps me from sitting on the couch waiting for the Bruins to come on at 7 pm.

Cool

Not long ago Barry (Inaforty) gave me an enclosure that he had lying around. Before he sent it to me he replaced the front panel just like he's talking about here. I can and will attest to the fact that his work is first class. In fact it's better than most shops I've dealt with in the past. Perfect, tight stitching. The quality of his work is self evident. If you need new panels and want people to say he is the man. Period!!

Phat,
Sounds good.
I knocked out a windscreen for a 30' Scarab on Monday.
Wish I would have taken a photo of the old Strataglass.
Nice and clear!

Wow, by redoing my vinyl, it'll turn into a 30 scarab, i'm in!!!

Back to reality, i'll get the measurements tomorrow. If i make some paper patterns, could you make me some "wing walls".

I don't have a v20 but can't see through my windshield. Would the plastic be able to make the turn like my cheap factory plastic.

Phat,
I can make the side panels for you but attaching them to the top and front panel is were it gets tricky.
If you lay out your pattern you have to take into consideration how and were it's going attach at the top and bottom and to the front. So if you need zippers installed you have to mark where they go and the beginning and end of each zipper also which end is the starting point and also what half of the zipper installed (the part with the slider or the part with the post).
Most side panels attach to the top with a zipper and side to front panels are zippers also.

If you have the old side panels that would make positioning all the attachment points much easier.

Striper,
I have almost the exact same boat as you. I believe my vinyl panels are original and sadly are in need replacement. Pretty sure although I might be wrong the factory used a 20 gauge vinyl.
Yes the 30 gauge would be able to make the bend/turn around to meet the side panel. I have used 40 gauge to make bends on panels on large flybridge boats. Not a problem to use the heavier gauge material. The heavier stuff usually last longer however it is harder to work with when sewing etc.

That's good to know. Hopefully when I go over my off season list I'll be able ad this in.

Having owned both a v20 and the 23 how do they compare in ride? I've never driven a v20 only fished on my uncles. Hopefully when he gets rid of it I'll pick it up and restore it.
