Default Any thoughts on these?

I found a couple of canidates to replace the project I don't have time for! Any comments or things I may be missing? I don't mind putting in some elbow grease so long as it doesn't mean a full on restoration which I've already proven I don't have time for. :-/

Also, should I get one of these I have a project V20 if anyone wants one! ::) Otherwise I think it's going to get recycled :o.

Yeah, I didn't think the 2nd one looked all too good. I hoped maybe it was just a bad pic.
The '78 looks like it's in pretty good shape, I'm just not too found of the open transom as well as the Mercury.

Jeff, I know how you feel man. I had the same situation with my project V20 before I took her to the dump. Not enough time, money and in alot of cases know how, for me anyway. The first boat looks like the better of the two, but your looking at a transom replacement by the look of that transom plate. The motor looks like a Johnson, not a Merc as mentioned in the listing. In my opinion I would keep looking.

Good eye, Mulv! I didn't even notice the defect on the right side! Wow, I think maybe I should go to bed and look again tomorrow when I'm not so tired! :)

As for the botched restoration...All of what you said holds true for me as well :-/. I figure I'll just take off the windshield and front hatch incase someone needs one. Nothing else on mine is worth a d!@# not that the hatch is in the greatest shape!

Jeff, I took all the parts off my old v20 and was actually able to use the windshield floor hatch and hopefully the fuel tank, I havent presure tested it yet. I wouldnt get rid of any parts until you find a V20 your interested in you never know what part you may need. My project was a 79 and so was the boat I bought so I guess I was lucky with the parts in that regard. Good Luck in your search for the right V20 their out there just sometimes hard to find

Here's my thoughts Jeff:

I live in Lexington NC. I can provide more details, but this is a start.

$3000 for the following (have over $4000 invested not including labor):

I have a 1972 V20 for sale w/ 2 bimini tops and new NFB steering, new rod holders, cleats, starboard on dash, windsheild supports, stainless gas fills. Cleaned fuel tanks but one has small leak near top that should be easily fixed. Completely rebuilt the trailer with new springs, ubolts, bearings, rims, tires, winch, lights. Used original axle and hubs. Johnson 140 not included (it belongs to Skools now ;)). Also two todd captain chairs in good shape are now on the boat but not pictured:

Not great shots but I had an $800 transom repair job done too:

And a running 1994 Yamaha 150hp 25" motor that needs carbs cleaned which is not currently attached to the boat. The cowl looks rough from salt water and sunshine, but overal a clean looking motor:

Skool's, thanks for the lead. I just wish it was a cuddy. :(

Blue, I'm definitly interested. Sounds like a great deal. :o My only question at this point is I thought that year V20 needed an outboard with a 20" shaft. Am I mixed up (highly likely, I'm no expert)? If I actually have it right, then what would need to happen to the yammie so it would work with this V20. I'd love to talk more about it and I'll send you a PM with my number. However, I don't want to waste your time so I'll let you know up front that I still need to do something about my boat since I don't have the room for two boats. (I'm gonna talk to one of my younger cousins tomorrow to see if he wants a new project ???) or if someone here wants it let me know.

Indeed, ideally a 20" shaft. You could go jackplate (I have one that would go with the deal), but if it were me I'd probably put a 20" 150hp on this hull. I had a 140 on the jackplate but due to transom issues it ended up cracking the fiberglass skin. That's when I took her in and the transom work done. I've decided to let the next owner decide whether or not they want the 25" motor/jackplate combo, or just buy hull and trailer. Its not going to be my boat so I don't think I should make the decision. That's why I haven't hung the motor. Not to mention you'd need yamaha controls and oil tank.

Jeff, I'll make some time and try to give you a call either today or this evening.

Thanks,
Blue (Shane)
