question i know that i have read a post about shorting the bow rail. my question is if you cut some off of the rails will it change the angle? seems that it would just make the back longer?your thoughts thanks!!

if ALL of the vertical rails are parallel (both lengthwise and crosswise) and are cut the same amount then yes... if the angles vary then it's not so simple.... if the latter then welded rail would likely require major mods and clamped rail would require minor mods

In truth, I like my bow rail and have never tried to modify one, but if I did then I'd shorten every upright the same length. That way the angle(s) would stay the same except for the last bracket where it bolts right to the deck. That angle will change as you lower the railing if you keep it the same length as before.

I shortened mine and when I reinstalled it, I had to trim some off of each edge. I used a tubing cutter, I think it looks 100% better.

if you shorten the verticals(that are angled forward) it will move the top rail aft as well as down. so if it currently hangs over the bow, it will then be above the bow. hope I'm making sense...
Not sure why you would lower it. It would be even less useful then. It does help when you sit on the bow with your feet dangling. Also helps as something to grab when launching/recovering.
