Default 06.05.13 - Spearfishing Cobia

Left out Wednesday morning with Pate and Brent in hopes of shootin up some Cobia and bottom fishin. Nice day to head east although gettin bait was TOUGH!! Better part of an hour for 16 sardines and some select grunts.

We got to the 40mi, an expansive live bottom area, and were instantly greeted by hordes of AJ's as thick as Ive seen em in years. After we each had a few to our name the live baits quit gettin sent down.

We managed a few Cobia, nice seabass, Beeliners and Triggers before we had to turn west and head home at 530. It was a WET ride in as TS Andrea was just arriving and introduced us to winds outta the south up to 20knts. We were able to make about 20-24mph through the 2-4' seas but we did so taking BUCKETS of water to the face every few secs. One of the wetest rides in I can remember.

Yeah actually they've had a big run down along the outter banks just before and during Memorial Day weekend. Lots and lots of big fish caught. It was amazing cause we were there - I mean right there with the other boats and did not see one single brown one. Albeit we spent a fair amount of time offshore after the dolphin but we did hunt around nearshore in some suspicious locations.....some friends we met down there and also do the annual memorial day week trip had caught 14 up to 85 lbs. when we left. They are die hard cobia guys tho. They'd rather ride all day looking than do anything else. They also had the tower on the boat which helps tremendously over standing on the gunnel hanging on the T top. Me, if I ride around for 3 hours and don't see a damn thing I'm ready to go do something else but that's just me. Kick *** vid man, ya'll rock!
