I thought we had managed to talk you out of this????
If you are dead set on this I strongly suggest you get two and carry everything you need to change on the water. Are you boating on salt water? |

none, use the stock pump, it works fine and doesn't increase the odds of failure. KISS

Ha Ha I asked which one not none , I don't want the seal on the camshaft and I don't want my cam chain running the water pump .YES IT WOULD BE a good idea to have a spare .the water pump will only work on temp 160 plus ...ill remember you told me so

If a person were to use an electric pump it would need to be ignition protected just like the starter, alternator, and distributor. If you plan to be on salt water you have additional corrosion concerns as salt air can be hard on electric items not designed for it.
To only run the pump only at 160 plus may cause hot spots. The pump should always run and the thermostat takes care of temp regulation. |

For a constant load application like a boat, an engine driven water pump is about as good as your going to get. The water pump will be running pretty much non stop under way, and if it isn't you will get some pretty severe hot spots around teh cylinder walls when it cycles off and on while under load. And there won't be much HP savings as you will now have a higher current drain on the charging system that will cancel out the HP savings from getting rid of the water pump. It's your engine and your decision, but running an electric water pump on anything but a competition style application is BEGGING for trouble.
