Default 96 V21 in Maryland

http://annapolis.craigslist.org/boa/3261162257.html

Going to check this boat out tonight. Any one know what compression readings should be on this motor? Any other thoughts on the motor good or bad are welcome too.

don't worry too much on what the compression reads as much as that all cylinders are within 10% of each other... ie 100 lowest and 110 highest....If possible, do the test on a warm engine at wot with ign disabled

Somebody put some clothes on her! She's naked!

Looks like a really good price. I wonder what the damage looks like.

Looks like it's been repainted. A 96 was destinctive by the Marlin fish decal on the side. Makes me wonder what the "gelcoat" damage was?

This is a 96 with her clothes on:

That's NOT to say that isn't a good find. If, as others have said, she's in good shape and with a good engine, that's a nice find. On a side note, seriously, ask him if he wants to sell the carport cover over her. Really, it's just what I've been looking for.

I don't think its been painted, I can see the "ghosting" left from the old decals. Looks good for the money, good luck.

Default The good, the bad and the ugly

Went to check her out. First the good. The transom seemed to be solid. The bad, I detected a little bit of give in the hatch over the fuel tank and the deck got softer the further aft you went from there. There was a very tired looking depth / fish finder, but no radio / gps / etc. I asked if the raw water wash down worked, the owner was not sure so I'm guessing it doesn't. Fuel gauge not working, reads full all the time. The port side by the oil tank had standing water in it. A clogged drain no doubt and then whatever problem there may be depending on how long that water has been sitting in there. Overall, a tired looking boat that would have benefited from a little more TLC over the years. And finally the ugly, see the picture, the gelcoat has been "repaired" but not properly. The damaged area covered the entire port side and the bow also had some damage from beaching. Nothing to report on the motor. Too much of a restoration project on the hull for my taste so I never even started the motor or looked under the cover.

What a shame.. Hate to see a lady let go like that. :( Soft floors are a known problem with V21's. Why, I don't know, but Wellcraft never sealed the plywood glued to the underside of the floor... so it gets wet from water, condensation, etc, and over time it rots away. Mine was so bad that I had to cut out the floor and redo all the wood and the water saturated foam under it.

I agree with what Destroyer said. What a shame. Such a nice boat. Either i did not read the entire ad or the seller added a story to it.

What differences are there between a V20 and a V21. I see a mini bracket, curved winshield that I really like and a new transom space waster storage thingy. What else is there? Looks like the same mold for both? Oh and where can I get the Wellcraft and marlin logo? Looks nice.

There's a salt water washdown on the starboard side, a livewell behind and under the capt's seat, a fish storage tub under the mates seat.

I don't think you can buy the original logo since it's copywrited.

You CAN , however, buy a close approximation off of eBay. They moved the Marlin fish to the end of the Wellcraft letters, so it's different enough that they can sell it. I've seen several sellers that sell them on eBay. This is one of them:

If you're interested, I'll measure the length and hight of the letters on my boat's logo so that you know the right size to order.
