Default Removing Rust in a 6 gal fuel tank

I picked up a older metal 6gal tank at a yard sale ,,tank has a little rust inside ,,should i trash it or is there a cheap way to clean it and coat it so the rust does not return ,,, when i would clean a aluminum tank i would just throw in some nuts and bolts and acetione shake and clean never had to coat the alum. ,,,but if i do that to the metal tank without some type of coating the rust will return,,, remember CHEAP is the key

I would junk it, plastic is cheap enough to get!! With this new gas there are plenty of problems, why add to it!!

There's actually a tank cream you can buy to coat it with, its used for motorcycle tanks. It's pretty expensive at about 25 dollars to treat the tank. So like MJ said, its not worth hooking that up to your outboard.

I agree that spending a ton of money on the tank is silly, but you can save the tank if you want. Just do your nuts and bolts thing (or course sand) then, after its clean, pour in some epoxy paint to coat and seal the metal. It must be epoxy because it's unaffected by gas after it cures. But really, how much money is your time worth? That's a lot of work for dubious results. I just bought a tank off eBay for less than $35 bucks... including shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=140777024632 Bargains can be had, just look for them.
