|  Battery Question 
			
			Tryin' to help out an older friend has two batteries been unused in his boat for two yrs + ... After pulling the caps, water is full, but both have a white substance on top of the plates...cannot tell what it is, but I've never seen this before...  ...anybody know what this white coating is?...I was gonna hook 'em up to the onboard charger, but now ain't gonna til I find out what this sh!t is...

			Calcium sulfate. It's what happens to the lead when it sits inactive with the acid in it. I know they make something to put in the battery to help break it up, but you need to also charge it up fully and do a maintance desulfate charge on it to zap it loose.

|   Thanks Ferm...and what does one use to desulfinate a battery?...and Spare, I'll ring ya in the mornin'...might be a lil late to wake the missus over a couple of 2 yr old batteries...LOL!! Thanks guys!!...
