I am wondering what you folks recommend for a sealant in the bolt holes when mounting an engine? My previous engine had a clear silicon type product that seemed to be effective and was fairly easy to remove. I am in the process of buying a new to me (2005 Honda 150) engine and the installer is saying he uses 5200. Granted that will do the job of sealing the holes, but I know that stuff is a bear to remove after it hardens. I can't imagine ever trying to remove it from inside the holes in the future. I asked him about using 4200 which I have not personnally used, but I understand it is easier to remove that 5200 and works just as well. What about plain old silicon?

What we do if we aren't sure if the height is going to be correct is to initially use silicone. Once we have determined the correct height, we clean off the silicone and use 5200.
I don't think we ever got more than 2 years benefit out of the silicone.

5200 all the way.... I'd skip the silicone.... if you don't get it all out it will weaken the seal of the 5200..... My suggestion is to just hang the motor w very little sealant if you are unsure. Then pull and reseal when you have it right.

i have used both, i use 5200 on below water line stuff and permanent installs.
i use 4200 above water line and for non permanent install, it will remove easier works for me!

both 5200 and 4200 are Ok below water line, I use life caulk on motor bolts. I've had to hook a motor to a tree and the trailer to a truck to separate the two when it was 5200'd on. The only place I use 5200 is if i NEVER plan to remove it. 4200 or life caulk do fine for below water line
