			I gave my 95 Cherokee to my sister, its been running fine, but the transmission went out last week, sounds like the planetary gears took a dump. Its a 95, 2wd, 4.0HO  What transmission is in it, what will interchange? Will a 4wd transmission bolt in with a diferent tailhousing? Got to get her fixed back up cheap, its a good car, but I doubt its worth carring it to  transmission shop, online prices for a reman are around $1600 plus core. Car can't be worth more than $2500

			That one has an AW4 in it, and they RARELY if ever fail unless you overheat them towing. They are normally a dime a dozen i nthe scrap yards and CL as they hardly ever fail. Most any AW4 from about late 91(some 91's had a cable drive speedo that was unique, but late 91+ were electronic) to 01 can be made to work with some small mods. The late 91-96 is a direct swap in, 97 requires swapping teh neutral safety switch over, and 98-01 requires swapping most all of teh electrical and harness's over(also 98+ have an extra speed sensor in teh bellhousing, but you just leave it unplugged when you run a late model in an early one). I have one sitting outside, but I believe it is the early 91 with the odd ball speedo drive on it.

			if you run across a good one let me know.  I don't know what happened to it, but about three years ago, I was towing an empty utility trailer, I got impatient while trying to merge and nailed it right at the same time it shifted from low to second, I felt it slip and backed off. Since then, on cold mornings it didn't like to shift, acted like a modulator valve was bad, you could let off the gas and it shifted fine, once it got warm, it didn't give any trouble. I changed the fluid and filter, put some additive in it and just kept driving it. I was in Raleigh last weekend adn my sister told me what had ahppend to it, it locked up on her, they had to drag it out of hte road, even in nuetral it drug one tire. I took it for a quick spin, you could hear the noise from the transmission, when you take off, the whirring noise got louder, I thought it might be the rear end, but the noise if definately coming from the transmission. As a friend of mine once put it " sounds like a hog knawing on rocks"

			found one out of a 4.0L 97 grand wagoneer 2wd, it should work, shouldn't it?

			Negative, only very early 93 had the AW4 in it. Mid year 93 on was a Chrysler 42RE trans. You need to find one out of a CHEROKEE or COMANCHE.
