Default Anchor Retrieval

I found this on another site, should help out for fouled anchors and work on wreck anchors.

I admit, cool device.

Ok, probably a dumb question...

Why wouldn't it work with a danforth?

because a danforth anchor has a 50% chance of laying on top of the cable.... would probably still work but not the best setup

Think this is a simpler solution. My neighbor has his rigged like this and it has got him out of a jam a couple of times.

Ah, I see, but wouldn't the little float keep the anchor on the correct side?

eh might influence it... lets guess 40% chance then..... there is also the issue of the cable getting hooked on a fluke and keeping it from digging in tho

I have a 12T Danforth rigged as a breakaway, but it's a little too big for my boat, so I got an off-brand anchor from Wal-Mart several years ago. It's a danforth style, but instead of a single center shank it has two center shafts joined at the end, and a heavy ring that rides along those shafts on either side. You shackle your chain to the ring and if you get snagged you simply release tension on your anchor line, then drive back against the drift. The ring slides to the bottom of your anchor, your line pulls the anchor out and you're free. Simple and it works.

Oh, and it doesn't cost 173 Euros (219 dollars) either... much, much cheaper.
