Trim sender

Hello:

I have a 1995 Evinrude 175 Ocean Pro. I want to hook up a trim gauge. I see that there are three wires from the sender. I see that there are 2 wires that come from the sender: White with Brown stripe and a Black. There is a third wire that was wrapped with these that was Green. The Green appears to have been attatched to the ground with the trim motor and rusted off. Under the engine cover, the other end of the Green wire also seems to be hanging not connected to anything. My questions are:

1) What wire sends the signal to the gauge?

2) What is the Green wire and where does it connect?
