Default Keep them anchors tight

I saw a show over the weekend called, I think, "Impact." Reality type show about accidents, trauma and the medical procedures to fix the victims. Some poor retired policeman from D.C. was fishing with buddies in Florida on about a 24' center console. They picked up anchor to move to a different spot and put the anchor up on the bow. The anchor must have not been fastened down properly, and it went overboard. There was about 20-25' of line between the anchor and the bow cleat. Somehow, while the boat was underway dragging the anchor, it hit something on the bottom and kicked up. The danged anchor came springing back into the boat, and impaled the poor policeman in the back of his head. The anchor went in about 3" into his skull. It was not the fluke of the anchor, but one of the cylindrical "bars" (has to be a name for that part of the anchor) that went into his head. Guy remained conscious and held the anchor for almost an hour before they got to medical help. Docs could not just pull the anchor out or the guy would bleed to death. So, after hours of surgery, the anchor came free, and the guy amazingly suffers nothing but a little loss of peripheral vision.

I saw that show a while ago. All I can say about that accident is WOW. It was amazing that he wasn't killed instantly. I would have gone out after that and bought a lottery ticket.

Thats how it goes for retired cops, make it 30 years without incident and then get hit by a flying anchor.
