Good Deal On V20 Steplift??

Hey everyone, new to this site and buying boats as well. Someone offered me what may be a good price on a Wellcraft.....$500 including trailer. Not sure of the year or even the current outboard but after doing a little research I think its a 1982 v20 step-lift. Anyway it definitely needs work as it has been sitting on land/neglected for a few years but I'm prepared to tackle the job if it is worth it. I will be getting more photos/info on the boat soon but I thought I would try posting here first. Let me know what you guys think! Thanks

$500 is a low price but you could easily be into thousands for repairs depending on the current condition. Check for softness in the floors and flex in the transom for starters. Does the engine run? I would check compression if possible. Whats the condition of the outdrive? Its hard to tell from the pictures but the trailer looks a bit beat up as well. You could wind up spending a lot more money fixing this boat as opposed to buying one in better condition with a better trailer.

If you are in Florida then its not a deal, check craigslist plenty of V in the South West area, the trailer is shot between that and the work on the hull it will be costly for 1500 to 2k you may be able to find a better deal ?

$500 is too much for that one in my opinion.

Provided the transom, floors and foredeck are solid and you are looking for a PROJECT boat, 500's OK...if it were me, I'd plan to junk the motor and outdrive and hang a bracket and outboard on it...but I wouldn't plan to spend just a little money and have a relible boat...

I agree that $500 seems reasonable if the floor/transom/stringers are in good shape, especially if the motor and outdrive operate.

Man looking at those raw plywood custom seats at first site are pretty scary but imagine that design out of some durable like starboard or powder coated aluminum. Pretty unique design

hunter, there is a hin # on the top of the transom on the starboard side. the last 2 digits are the year. i might be wrong, but that looks a little older than an 82.

I would agree with phatdaddy looks similar to a 78 or 79.

dash is newer then the 70's and the rear transom cover also says it is newer, I think you have the right year
