I have a Wellcraft Step V20, 1987. When my buddy and I stand near the stern, water comes in from the deck drains. Does anyone know of a way to resolve this problem. Thank you.

pick up a set of toggle type garber plugs like you would use in the transom. put them in when you are out and about, right into the floor drains. just remember to pull them out when running in rough water bad conditions et so your boat stays a self bailing hull. tie a bright orange string to them so you won't forget them when you are leaving the boat in the water at the marina etc. it needs to be able to get rid of rain water etc.

What about a set of those rubber scappers? I'm putting those on mine.

The clear scuppers with the pingpong ball mounted externally work well to eliminate the flow into the boat and are a nice upgrade. The ball acts like a check valve, it lets water out so long as the water level is below the scupper, when the stern dips under the water the ball floats up and seals the hole. These are more durable than they look but do require a bit of maintenance because debris such as sticks and leaves will prevent them from working properly. The maintenance is easy, grip the clear housing on the outside firmly and turn the housing 1/8 turn to remove clean and inspect.
Chances are the boat has some scuppers there already but they aren't working properly. |

I would not put those on the drains for your floor scuppers. They are meant for your thru transom drains on the stern. They will get beat up and clogged sitting on the side of a V where I believe most V's have there outside scupper thru hulls.

You can do this, cut a round piece of about 1/16" thick rubber round a little bigger than the opening on the hull drain fitting and screw one screw on top of the circle on the deck fitting to create a "gate" kinda thingie, or you can buy that thruhull fitting in stainless only, but big $$$$$, Grady is using them.

I read the post wrong and assummed the floor drains went out the back. I could not agree more. Plastic is not for the sides. I even questioned the quality for the transom but they worked great on my boat for 4 years before I sold it. It drained thru the transom.
