Hello all,

I have been reading posts for awhile now, finally joined.(yipee) Great site with lots of info and nice boats. I picked up a v20 last year that my brother found sitting on the side of the road. The boat had sat for 5 or 6 years, and when he showed it to me I knew I was going to buy it. So the owner and I made a deal and I brought it home. The owner didn't know much about the boat as his brother had given it to him and he never did anything with it. So I bought it blind had no clue if it would even run. I got it home and threw a battery in it and the engine turned over for a second and that was it. So to make a long story short I put a in a new starter, points and condenser, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. She fired up....Now the questions start which I will post another thread about. The boat is a 1982 with the merc 470.

Thanks

The top was donated to me by a friend who had a wellcraft 210. It sits low in the back but works fine. I would like to get longer support bars but then the side curtains won't fit.

Welcome to the site! Looks like you got yourself a nice one. It looks great. Some will tell you to snatch that 470 out but dont listen to them, they're really good motors if taken care of (like anything else). and they're good on gas!! I've been completely through mine, and learned alot while doing it. Theres nothing complicated about them. If you got any questions, let em fly. I would suggest changing the dist over to a Pertronix electrionic ignition, it really improves the performance of a 470/170 mercruiser. Best of luck with your new boat!!

Wow lots of nice comments about my donated top, thank's.(lol) The funny thing is when I bought the boat it had a custom hardtop on it. Someone used plywood, fiberglass mat, and roofing tar to complete this project. It took 3 hours to remove this hiddious thing and I still have some resin and tar on the sides of the boat and windsheild frame that are proving hard to remove. I have pics of the boat with the hardtop somewhere which I will post when I find them.
