No i don't need dental advice
Well after 10 years, my holland gas grill died a brave and fiery death last night( taking a rack of baby back ribs with it). i can possibly get a rebuild kit for about $250, but before i go that route, i thought some of you resident grillmasters might have some suggestions. I don't want to start the eternal debate gas vs charcoal. i normally don't like gas, but the holland has the system where you can't burn the food(no flare ups), i know other grill have this feature as always , i look forward to your wisdom, thanks. |

Do a little research and see if what ever grill type (gas or charcoal) you decide on try and buy an American Made grill. There are some out there. Billy Mac
![]() Weber charcoal grills are made in the USA. We did a turkey on a Weber up at deer camp and it turned out great. MHP gas grills are also american made.

We accidentally ran across a natural gas grill on clearance (somewhere like Lowes or HomeDepot). The eveness of cooking and capability of turning it down to real low amazed me, much better than any propane we have ever had. this one must be 10 years old.
I do know they are pricey, and it sounds like a commercial, but Weber does make some good grills.

Thanks T, i am going to install a Renai(sp?) tankless hot water heater and it will be about 25 ft from where the grill will rest, i had not thought of using natural over propane.
sure would be nice to get the bottle monkey off my back. i guess i could get the orifice and change over any grill i get? |

I was thinkin of converting from the bottle to natural..A friend or mine did, & doesn't like it, says it does not burn as hot.

If the rebuild kit for yours is $250 then you are talking way above my level of grill, but I do like the way my Webber charcoal model works.

This is the grill i have & if i had not used one, i would not have been interested. i did some work for a customer and we did a trade out. i have had it for 10 years and love it. it is not like a normal gas grill, the food taste like charcoal cooked. I think this is kinda funny, if it is in warranty, parts are free but shipping & handling is $199.00 if it is out of warranty, parts are $199.00, plus S&H not much of a warranty, in my book. http://www.hollandgrill.com/index.cf...D/34/index.htm If anybody is near millbrook ny, this might be a good deal http://cgi.ebay.com/HOLLAND-LP-GAS-G...QQcmdZViewItem Last edited by phatdaddy; 02-11-2009 at 09:01 AM. |

Phat, I've eaten a ton of food cooked on a holland grill. It all started probably 10 years ago when one of my friends got one. Then one of my other friends ate from the other guys holland and went out and bought one....this cycle has went around a few times and now practically all of my friends have holland grills.
You are right, it is a different kind of grill that has that nice feature where you turn the gas all the way up, close door and pre-heat, add food and close door until its done (well maybe flip it in between). We always say, "if you're looking you ain't cookin." Those grills don't get much if any over 375 degrees. I'm not sure how "low" it will go but I'd bet pretty dang low, maybe 200 degrees? Don't know. My opinion is now that you have had the holland, I seriously doubt you'll be happier with anything else. 10 more years for 25 bucks a year ain't too bad IMO. I say get the rebuild kit. p.s. I wish I was close by to that stainless model on CL. Nice! Blue's .02

Good point, blue. i'm scared i'd be setting my self up for a disappointment. my dad always told me "If the only complaint you have about something is the price, you got a deal".
your right, if your thing is looking & flippin, don't get a holland. |
