A good friend of mine got Tom-Tom for his wife and they use it on trips together...her job has her driving all over unfamiliar rural parts of the county...they love it!!...say it's great!!...

I have no opinion of any of them. Naturally as a male, I won't ask directions and won't admit to being lost.
Being it's for her, let her decide. WalMart even carries them. One thing though, when they first came out, they were very popular to steal. Get one removable or consealable, even the mounting brackets. Seeing the mounting brackets and no navigation device is a dead giveaway you got something hid worth stealing.

chuck .... I have a garmin that i bought last fall for 179.00 it came with a windshield mount and a soft bean bag mount for sitting on the dash.
we love it and gets moved from car to car with ease.

Plus shes got a very sexy voice and dosent ***** like the wife when we get lost, she stays calm and just says recalulating... and every now and then I'll blow her a kiss.

hope this was help.

I have a Tom Tom One that I got on "Black Friday" last year for $129 online....

I love it! A couple of times it has been slightly inaccurate but mainly it is great especially for the price I paid. Some people like extra feature such as announcing the name of the streets but that costs more. For example, instead of saying, "left turn in 200 yards" it will say "left turn on Main St in 200 yards". You have to pay more for that. We have used it many times to find the nearest Dunkin Donuts or restaurants etc. Came in very handy during our Florida vacation this summer. If you can wait, there are bound to be lots of great deals on GPS the day after Thanksgiving. I got mine at Circuit City and most of their Black Friday deals can be had online so I just waited until midnight and bought it online rather than get up at 4 am to go shopping.

I've heard a lot of good things about tom toms, however, I swear by garmin products. I must have had about six different types by now, different boats, hand helds even the palm pilot with gps built in. I have not gotten one for the car yet, but I find if you can use one garmin product you can use them all, they all work very similar, making things alot easier. Just my 2 cents.
Oh I did rent a garmin with a car a few months ago, think it was a nuvi forget what model number though. It worked great for the amount of time I needed to used it. Which was very little. It was when I went to Michigan to see the nuts in the Red Bull plane races...........

well, i got the garmin nuvi 205. its easy to use and it came in the same red as her car so she's happy.
its the newer version of the 200 but with the 3.5 screen.
ran $199. but we got it for a few bucks less.
she's got a run to make tomorrow so we'll see how she does.
kinda dopey but she's got a great can.

Well that was quick. She won't be disappointed with the Nuvi. The best part about it is how compact the mount and GPS are, its really easy to bring with you for your rental car.
