Anyone ever use West system for bonding wood. I used it with cloth and had no problems, just a bit skepical on how strong it really is when it comes to bonding wood to teh fiberglass skin.

Might it be appropriate to put a layer of 6oz cloth between the plywood sheets? THat's what I had in mind, but I'm certainly no expert...

When I fixed the hole in my boat for the bracket I put cloth between the two pieces of ply. But like air I am no excpert either. But it is solid as a rock!!
I also used some screws to hold all toghter, after it was dry I took them out, did not want anything to rust in there. You are doing a good job for a first timer!!

you don't want to leave those screws in the transom and you should have placed a layer of glass between the wood. then once it dried ground the glass to be rough and wet out then wet outthe second layer of wood then clamped in the second layer. then glass it in with 2 to 3 layers of glass

Thanks MJ and SKOOL, so I guess I will add in a sheet of cloth, let dry..grind..wet down along with second piece of wood and then clamp down...correct. ??? ;)
Need more West System. Gonna go beg at the boat yard in the morning.

to late to glass now cause youhave resined now just grind the resin you put on the first layer to rough up wet out and wet out the second layer and clamp on without glass between.

Good to know this. I didnt think I needed cloth between the wood, as if how frayed was bonding in the wood to his skin of his fuel tank cover.

Skools, correct me if I'm wrong, but the ideal method would go something like this...using slow cure hardener:
1. Scuff the inside of the outer skin. 2. Wet out a layer of cloth 3. Sheet of ply 4. Layer of Cloth 5. Second sheet of ply 6. Clamp the hell out of it ;D Steps 2-6 could all be done in one shot to make for the best bond. 7. Scuff the last sheet of ply and lay up 3 layers of glass for the inner skin. 8. Have a frosty
