I just installed a new Lowrance 337 (external antenna) color sonar/GPS combo...if sonar is all you want, there's a unit in this size that's VERY reasonable...the 337 series has been replaced w/ another just to keep up w/ marketing...so you oughtta be able to find one pretty cheap ;) ...

Regardless of which brand you decide to buy, get the most vertical pixels 400 or more, most power, largest screen and in my openion a single frequency, wide angle for 40 fathoms or less. One disadvantage of having a combination unit gps/ff is if one needs repair you are out of both. One disadvantagve of having two seperate units is they take up a good bit of console space. Happy shopping to you.

I used to buy high dollar fish finders but salt water will zap even the best of them so now I buy all my electronics off ebay. I know a guy who is a big weenie at raytheon and he gave me one of the state of the art super duper super man fish finders with all the goodies including temp , speed, penis enhancer etc and in less than a year I managed to fry it..On the other hand I have a basic $59 dollar lowrance on my old 17 Mako that has worked without a problem for 5 years and it sits out in the weather full time.... .Frank

I just bought a Sitex CVS 106 (the old tube style, not lcd) on ebay with a thru hull transducer for $138 including shipping. Those units were $600 - $700 plus new. Of course this one could be junk, but we will see.

You don't want any advise from me. I ran around for a year or so with mine still on demo mode.
