I think that style is better than the standard side mount types. It's essentially the same as the binnacle mount style which incorporates better components IMO.
MJ gave me a binnacle mount controller that came with his new (to him) 175 Evinrude. Looks just like that. Well made too.

i agree i took the new side mount out of that 21 project an installed this type, they are better to me and out of the weather. they are all marked either I/O / Stern Drive / Outboard. but are all just alike inside. i have all and they are the same inside 100%. they give the boat a cleaner look to me as well.
