When using a ''ball-ring'', if you can't get it up on your own, then the boat will get it up for you... ;) ;D ;D ;D...

Hammer, not only through bolted, but would advise a backing plate of aluminum or epoxy coated plywood the same foot print of the pulpit. Like you , I worried about puting a hole in the roof of the cabin, especially for the deck pipe. I used an oversize pipe so the line would get out fast and go in easy. This would let a lot of water in from spray & rain. I put a piece of 4" drain tile as a conduit from the deck to the anchor locker. It works great, any water that gets in the deckpipe will go to the locker and to the bilge. I ve done alot of diving off of this boat and love it. I had center consoles before this and thought they were great, but the cockpit on the v-20 has a lot of room for dive gear. I installed 2 pop-in tank racks on the gunnels behind the seats, put 2 tanks in the deck fish box, and built a rack that will hold 4 tanks upright in the well in the cabin. That spread the weight around and left a lot of room for the other stuff. I also added a "handicap" bathroom rail on the cap above the swim platform and put a 3 step ladder on the the platform. The older you get the more you will appreciate this feature.
MJ, the ball is great, kinda scary first coupla times but you get the hang of it. I really use it because of the 25 ft of anchor chain , it gets heavy.

Good to see a fellow diver with a V20. I wanted the cuddy for storage and planned on installing a tank rack above the rod holder racks as well. I have a X-Mas Tree Dive ladder to install once I get a swim platform. Not sure if I will go custom or just a standard teak platform and simply bolt the ladder to.
3-months until I start diving again and plenty of work to get done on the boat, but I think that I'll make it. : )

Here's how:

1) Slip the ring around your anchor line and fasten the ring ends into the cliphook which is attached to the rope and buoy.
2) Drop the ANCHOR BALL into the water and motor towards the anchor.
3) Run past the anchor at the speed of 6-8 knots. The buoy will mostly submerge until the buoyancy of the buoy raises the anchor.
4) When the anchor is fully raised into the ring, the buoy will pop to the surface. The ring will hold the anchor at the surface.
5) Slowly return to the buoy while you are retrieving the loose rope.
6) Carefully lift the buoy and anchor into your boat.

Best part is that retrieval can be done from the cockpit. You'll be kickin yourself for not doing this sooner, makes retrieval so much faster and easier.

Hammer, I've got an 83 outboard(95'150Mariner)with a teak swim platform on the port side. The christmas tree ladders are nice, you don"t have to take off your fins to stand on it. I've got one on our scallop boat(13' whaler). I would love to post pictures, but don"t know how, maybe I can get my kids to show me. I would really like to have a hard top, but haven't seen one that I really like or can afford.
Tin man, thats exactly how its done, works great until you set the hook in a submerged bridge span. Sometimes I lead the rope around and tie to a stern cleat, you don't have to worry about running over your line, because you can keep an eye on the line and ball at the same time.

My buddy in Charleston w/a 28' cat CC, twin 200 Optis uses anchor bouy w/great success...works just like Tin Man posted above...he even uses it instead of the windlass...it's faster!!... ;)...

It good to know that the teak platform can hold the weight of a diver and the additional dive gear. That is my biggest worry, those skinny littele bolts or screws going through the transom holding the platform. They will hold the kids and all, but had concerns with the weight of a diver.
