Thanks for all of the replies. I think I will mount them towards the back to cut down on the cost and length of the cables if I were to install them under the console. Thanks.

Both of my batteries are located in the starboard side box at the stern, bought it that way. I do have a slight starboard list. I'd suggest NOT rigging this way. Either put one on either side or keep them closer to the center line, like in the console.

One of these days I am going to move one to the port side box.

Tin Man

My battery and oil are both in the starboard side of the transom. When I get to the helm there is a major list.

My '74 CC is original and the batt is mounted under console-you should be able to find a couple of screw holes where the strap securing the battery box was screwed down if your's is like mine. The thru-hulls you mention are on mine-the two on the transom are the actual drains for 1) fuel over-flow from neck of fuel-fill and 2)drain for any water accumulation in depressed area around fuel fill. they are two totaly indepedent but identical drains--and there should also be 2 thru hulls on the side which are obviously "teed" into these drain lines which serve as a "breather" ( just like any house drain is plumbed)-regards
