The same thing coulda happened w/any new motor, Merc, Yam, Zuke, Honda...I surely don't jump to any conclusions because of this...BRP's doin' just what I'd have thought they would and makin' it as painless as possible...are you gonna notify them of 1st dealers FU?...

i been wanting an e-tec since they first came out. but have been waiting for them to prove themselves. (+ no $) now i got the cash for the down payment and i dont think i gonna get one, as bad as i want too. i know where 2 are for sale at a very resonable price with 'brand new powerheads'. i have seen several come and go on ebay with 'brand new powerheads'. and a freind of a freind, i was told, got 2 'brand new powerheads' one right after the other on his kenner with twin 150's.
being an omc man all the way its not ez to say this but, i think i will be hanging a yammie on my new transom after i get moved. that or sticking with the old johnny 175 for a while longer. i just afraid that this 'brand new powerhead' is starting to look like a recurring theme.
any body else with an e-tec needed the software update?

OK I'm here. Since last fall I've spent about 5 months checking out the 2 strokers available. They all have problems. Evinrude in my opinion is the best two stroker on the market. If you go to http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zeroforum?id=51 you can read about the different problems out there. Evinrude (BRP) stands behind their product. If you do blow your head they replace it all. LS what prop were you running. Our motor's heads are the same. I'm sure you'll be well taken care of by BRP. From all my reding they are the tops in customer satisfaction. Billy Mac ;D

Hi billy, brp is standing behind me 100 % the are also willing to obsorb the cost os a new prop , i was told there was a software update that was not done to my engine and the # 6 cylinder was lacking oil and that the prop was not turning high enough rpm's an i have a 14 3/4 x 18 , and my first dealer said it was good , after a couple trips i still wasnt happy with the prop.let me know what you think

Lumber, I concur on the BRP warranty. I just had a head replaced on a 2004 Ficht. No questions asked. Done in a week. However, unlike you lucky Etec owners, I now have to go through a painful 10 hour break-in period.

WTF?!?! >:(

Slinger man that really BLOWS! I hope you get all straightened out and back on the water very soon. I never would'a thunk it - dam software!

Why the hell do you need software to run a dam outboard anyway?!? ::) >:(

What ever happened to fuel, air and spark? Isn't that all you need for heaven's sake?
