Listen... I love the look of this boat as much as the next guy. What you have to remember is, this is a 65 year old hull design. Yes, it’s timeless. Yes, it’s a decent ride. Yes, it’s got a huge following. Second only to Boston whaler, from what I can see.
BUT........ it’s still a 65 year old design. The new crop of deep Vs is a completely different animal. The gradys. The yellowfins, etc....... these things cut chop like a hot knife through butter. The difference in ride quality is night and day. I love the V! That said, if I could afford a contender or a regulator or any one of a hundred other similar hulls....... I’d jump on it!

The V-20, like any machine, has compromises.
I don't see anything spectacular about the hull, especially compared to current designs. The quality control also sucked. That said, I have never been on another boat that functions better as a whole than the V-20. What sells me is the layout. With the V, you get 360 degree fishability like a center console, you get dry, lockable storage, a huge, deep, safe cockpit, and in calm water you can still sit on the bow and sunbathe if anyone does that anymore. I would love a Judge 27 hull, with an interior layout like a giant V-20. An average human could probably sleep in it, and maybe have room for a head as well. Still trailerable and could be powered with a single 350 Suzuki dual prop. And you could fit three rods in each side's rod holder cutouts. ![]() I don't know if they would sell today or not. Everyone is more worried about buying something that impresses the neighbors rather than thinking through what works best for them. Thats why you cant give away anything other than a center console these days. |

I think a big part of that is that today***8217;s center console is pretty much a cuddy, as well. Anything over a 24 CC has space inside the console. The bigger ones have a nice size space under there.
Also, I look at some of these new, bigger center consoles, teak and varnish and just luxury and I have to wonder who the hell is swinging a bloody tuna over the gunwale?!? That tuna blood probably doesn***8217;t come out of leather.

And of course the cost of entry to get a used V a lot easier than the newer boats.
Even factoring in replacing transom if rest of boat solid |

Wait, stop , listen to me ,I'm really smart . Bring back the V20 exactly the same only get rid of the wood. True the newer boats probably do ride better but they did a test , a new Dodge Charger vs a old a
School dodge charge (1968) and the newer one best the old school one in speed and handling but the driver said the old one was so much more fun to drive than the new one, the old one you feel the road under the tires ,the new one you didn't So there you go old one more fun than the new ones with yo much crap on board How does this sound Coming in 2022 New wellcraft 20,6 Steplift Price with motor 150 Mercury outboard 2 stroke ( that's right I said it 2 stroke) And trailer $ 29,000 Lifetime warranty on hull 5 years on motor Call your order in now There going fast .

Bring back the V ….BUT with updated hull design.
Bill Potter of Seacraft fame built a 21 ‘ for which there are now only a few remaining . It had an exceptionally tall bow with associated very deep V entry. Or just copy the new Reg Hull design . Concept being V20/21 style . |

Also have to remember, when these hulls were built and sold, average tow capacity of the vehicles was probably 3 to 4 thousand pounds. We were a drawtite trailer hitch dealer and 90 percent of what we installed was class 1, 200 lb tongue weight, 2000 lb tow weight. Occasionally a guy would want a class 2, 350 lb tongue 3500 lb tow weight.
Most pick ups came with a step bumper and thats what they towed with. It kills me that you see all these guys with 2500/3500 diesels pulling 5000lb loads around. That***8217;s why a working guy who actually needs that capacity can t afford them, only doctors, lawyers and accountants. |

Quote:
Once upon a time the drivers blowing your doors off on the interstate were in sports cars. Now it's more often a big pickup truck, and sometimes they're blowing your doors off while towing a boat or camper! But I digress . . . I agree with Skunk. Nobody is buying cuddy's anymore. |

Why are they not buying cuddys anymore? Maybe cause they don't make them. I fished on a 19 center console and there is no room on that boat, the Steplift has a ton of room behind the helm and on the c.c if you has to take a crap your screwed on my V I close the door open the hatch and do my buisness Give me the V20 anytime I'm not talking about boats in the 22 And larger I'm talking about a 20.6 boat They are the best for that size . I own a 1978 and still to this day love the look. Think of a corvette a 1956 vet vs a c8 vet, sure the newer one is faster, much faster but the 56 is so much more fun to drive, case close.

I owned a center console….cramped, and of course cold, hot, wet depending on conditions.
V about the most versatile boat all around for what it is . Boat mfg in Australia makes a V type boat that’s modern built for hard ocean running. |
