Got everything done! The exhaust bellows was a little painful but I made an expansion tool that worked well. The kit I ordered came with a new gimble bearing that doesn't have a grease hole. I called ebasicpower and they said it was a permalube SKF bearing. I was a little reluctant to use it but I had already pulled the other one out. It turned out really good so I guess Im ready for a good cleaning and hit the water.

Been a busy summer with the garden, work, working around the house. Only got to take the V out once since the work I did early this year. It ran good but ran hotter than normal. hooked the muffs and hose up to it today and it took forever before I saw water coming from the exhaust ports. I have checked the new hose in the gimble, took the water pump apart and checked it, cant find anything wrong. When I put the new impellar in I spun it counterclockwise in the cup, I think that's right. Usually when I start it up on the water hose it starts blowing water in just a few seconds! I noticed the water kinda spits out the pee hole instead of a nice steady stream too. It took at least a minute or more of running before water came out of the exhaust holes. I'm missing something. Any ideas?

Is your hose kinked that goes from the bellhousing to the gimbal? That's the main thing that jumps out at me.

I replaced the hose and it looks fine, no kink. I'm thinking its the water pump itself. Ive taken it apart twice and I cant find anything wrong. I'm stumped! I guess I'll take it apart one more time. I used a new base, impeller, top and gaskets. The old impeller looked ok but had been in for a couple of years.

I'll admit I don't know jack about I/O's... but are you sure that counterclockwise is the proper direction to set the vanes of the impeller? Also, if the impeller is good then it sounds like there's something blocking your water from cooling the engine. Since you say that you were running hotter than normal, and your water pisser isn't reacting like it normally does that would be my next thing to look at. (The route of the water, not the pisser itself) You either have a blockage, your impeller is backwards or your thermostat isn't opening. Gotta be one of the three.

One thing that comes to mind is being sure the gaskets are correct. I did my impeller recently with a full replacement kit and there were a lot of spare gaskets - I caught myself getting it wrong a couple of times. Comparing every detail of the new with the old ones helped me.

Yep, maybe that's what it is. I got some days off coming up I'm gonna drop the lower unit off and check it out. There was a lot of gaskets in the kit. I noticed the base was hard to get in place too. I feel like my problem is with the pump. Ive put kits in before and never had any trouble. I used a GLM kit and the base looked a little different.I wish I had used a OEM kit. I'll know next time! I have a manual and watched a few videos. Maybe i'll see whats wrong. Thanks guys.

Well. I got to it today. Pulled the lower unit off and pulled the water pump apart. Everything looked good except for the impeller. It had some small slivers of rubber hanging off of it. Don't know what happened to it. It was installed correctly with plenty of lube. I took a piece of 5/8 rubber hose and attached it to the water pocket tube up in the upper section, removed the short hose between the heat exchanger and the riser and blew through it easily blowing all the water out of the heat exchanger. Put the pump back together with new gaskets and impeller and mated it back up to the upper unit. Filled it back up with oil and hooked it up to the water hose. Started it up and by the time I got to the back of the boat it was pumping like crazy! I guess the brand new impeller had failed. Its all good now!
