Time for new bellows

Had some time to get the V ready for the season so I changed oil and filter, spark plugs, fuel filter and gave it checkup. Got a complete water pump kit and replaced it, usually change the impeller every other year. Soaked the impeller in Marvel Mystery oil as Spare said. Checked the 170 Mercruiser over good and started it up. Raised the outdrive up and boom, the exhaust bellows popped a little hole in it. Ordered a complete kit from Ebasicpower, hope it will be in by Tuesday. Got a few days off this week to get it done. I replaced it way back it 2006 so its lasted way past its life expectancy. Its warming up fast here and Im ready to get it wet!

Sorry Spare, I thought that was you that told me that trick. Its a slippery thing to get in the cup though! Lol!

Skools out said to soak them, I coat them in silicone paste. As to the exhaust bellows, I wish you luck. The ladt couple I put on popped off within a few hours. Looked online, and found alot of people complaining about the new bellows not staying on. I ended up putting the short tubes in.

Ferm, I put a set on my buddys V last year and it popped off the first time he raised the outdrive. Had to go back and do it again.

I redid the neighbors probably 4 times before I gave up and did the tubes. Never had any trouble with others until his.

Well, I got my bellows kit the other day and proceeded to start on it. Pulled the outdrive and found a little oil in the drive shaft bellows. Figured it was time to replace the upper housing input shaft seal. Pulled the assembly out, everything looked good. Pulled it apart and replaced the seal, not a bad job! Gotta get the outdrive back together and then back to the bellows. The kit came with a new gimble bearing but mine feels fine. I think I'll replace it anyway while I'm right there. The wind is blowing 40+ mph and cold, 40 degrees. I think I'll work inside today, just finished night shift!

LOL... NO... Cold is not 40. 40 is a heat wave. We've had sub 30's for the last week and a half. 12 this morning when I woke up. 15" of snow the day before. And to think that the official start of Spring is a week away. God I love this Global Warming...:you:
