(It just goes to show you how far we've come... they are willing to lose a $400 sale just because they cannot figure out how to take a credit card number over the phone and how to put two small boxes into a large box and then call FedEx) What the hell ever happened to customer service????
Specially a computer company...ironic...like I went in a BBQ place several years back...liked their BBQ sandwich so much, told 'em I wanted to take home a pound...shocked waitress says , Let me check...goes back into kitchen, talks to OWNER and comes back to tell me they are not "set up" to sell by the pound...

I spoke to the manager of one of the stores Joe.. he told me that it would be a simple thing to do, but that the order to not do it came down from corporate and that he would risk losing his job if he did it. So I'm thinking that someone in their corporate office has reached their Peter Principal spot in life.

(And for those of you that don't know what the Peter Principal is, basically it's a statement that says that people will continue to rise in their given profession until they become incompetent in their job. In other words, if you are competent in your job you will get promoted up the next rung of the corporate ladder.. and you will continue to do so for as long as you are competent and can do your job. But eventually you'll hit a spot where you cannot do the job...it's bigger than you can do. That means that you are now incompetent. That's your Peter Principal position).

Like I said at the beginning, it sounds like someone at CompUSA Corporate has now hit their Peter Principal position. They are incompetent.

Call Joe...see if there would be any backlash on him for you to contact corporate...it's a published number...there is some technical issue they haven't come to grips with...they'll have to step up soooner or later...they can't just keep their heads in the sand and lose that much business...we did credit card purchases over the phone at the restaurant all the time...it's no big deal...

The way that he explained it to me was that without them being able to see the card and also some ID from the buyer, they had no way of knowing over the phone if the card was stolen or not. Makes you wonder how all those internet sales are taking place....and I thought that's why the credit card companies had insurance and backed up the merchant no matter what?
