I am betting on fuel, clogged or ff'd up carbs. I've had the same thing happen to me, wouldn't get on plane because the motor was under load but it would rev up fine.

hwo long has it been since teh last time you ran the boat? Has it been run regulary? You could have some ignition problems going on, but it wouldn't care if it was loaded or not, it would run like crap either way, Sounds liek fuel, if it picks up rpm when you push in the key(applying the choke) its definatley fuel

The problem is that I would have to go out with all six people to test it...not likely. It works fine with me alone.

check it over and try to get it to turn 5600 with just you, at 5200, its down on power from what you reported earlier. I'm still concerned about your prop, that boat should be running a lot faster than 40mph @ 5600 rpm, it should be in the upper 40's lower 50's with one person aboard and light load. What kind of prop are you running and what pitch. Have your run the boat this loaded(6 people) before?

So even after it malfunctioned with six people, it will still plane out and run to 5600 with you alone? A little strange, I agree with Spare, Still and Phat. When was your last service? It may just be be time to change your filters spark plugs etc. give it a good tune up. What did the plugs look like when you took the compression test? Is it running smooth or missing? I understand it has good compression so you can cross that off the list. Get a manual and go step by step like the troubleshooting section says. Compression is done, spark is next, then fuel. Pull a sample of fuel in a empty water bottle to see what you have. Eliminate the easy things first then with a multi-meter with DVA you can test nearly all the electronics.

you need one of these anyway, late stocking stuffer to yourself. crank motor and test each plug , one at a time. might have dropped a coil or two.

auto zone or oreillys also carry them

I may have missed this in the thread, but did you actually go out after you dropped the 6 people off and the motor behaved normally . . . or are you assuming that it is running fine, b/c it ran fine before you went out with 6 people.

Good Question BS...I am assuming that it is running fine, b/c it ran fine before you went out with 6 people. I will test it again, weather permitting and report back.
