stink, seriously, my 17 Mitchell did the same thing after I put a plate on it, in turns it would blow out, I thought I had the motor too high, but after looking at it, I noticed the part that attached to the boat was dragging, I removed the plate and drilled holes 1" higher and remounted it, of course I had to lower the engine, what i found was the corners of the jack plate were too low on the boat, and they were dragging in the water while on plane, it got worse when you turned, it would actually scoop up water. you usually don't have this problem if it is mounted on a bass boat as there transoms are allready elevated a little.
