The 60 degree V-6 loopers are argued to be the best JOHNNY-RUDE ever built for longevity, durability, and reliability. But they are also argued to be some of the thirstiest engines ever as well with fuel consumption numbers right in line with those of the bigger 90 degree V-6's, and consuming 50% more than comparable loopers from other manufacturers. The older cross-flow engines were pretty thirsty as well though.

Before I repowered, my ol' '86 Gas-Suckin' 150 Rude drank some gas, but not what you describe...if yer not handy w/ outboards, find a good OMC Tech ;) ...

I just fueled today. 32 gallons for 19 hours of run time.
The trip log said 101 miles, But trolling in the stream twists the miles over ground that the gps reads. Running south into the stream I run an extra four miles every hour.

Tide and drift boys.

You did take the boat OFF the trailer before you went fishing didn'y you. I'll run 40 to 50 miles a day and burn maybe 20 gallons, I'm not kidding, Oz and Willy will confirm. I have a 150 yamaha 4 stroke.

I was being very hard on it, Reel sez my boat makes gas, I filled up the boat when Oz and willy came down, we fished 2 days, all day. One day was outside, one day was inside, probably put 14 hours on the boat those two days, I have fished 3 times since then and put in 50 bucks worth @ 2.85 a gallon and still have well over 3/4's of a tank (80 gallon capicity) It makes me crazy cause it seems to use so little fuel, I haven't even tracked usage closely at all. I usually put in $20 buck worth whenever I go fishing. When I run out to the fishing grounds ( bethel shoals) it's like 17 miles from the inlet, I troll around all day, I don't think it's been below 1/2 a tank since the day I took her home.

snoozer has the 140 suzuki/johnson and according to his numbers he is getting 3.35 mpg, and some of that is trolling. that is a great mpg, i would love to avg that, but it is hard to justify a $12000 investment to gain 1 mpg. i am refering to repowering for the sake of gaining gas mileage. if your ob pukes and your are forced to repower, then it might be a different story. given these numbers, i think you'd be better off getting a 2 0r 3 year old 2 stroke.

I get around 5 mpg with my Johnzuki 140 on the V. It varies with the seas, but the worst I have gotten is 4 mpg, that was running in 4-5 footers.

I have seen a couple of 140's on the internet lately for 6500-7000 for new/old models.
