Default A question of weight - 225 Etecīs too much?

Cheers everyone, enjoy reding old and newer thoughts on performance. Now a question I probably asked before but I can`t find it now. Does anyone know the weightlimit on an outboard for my 1988 V20 Cuddy? I am thinking of buying a used 2006 yearīs 225 hp Evinrude E-tec (not the HO) and imagine that it is on the limit what the boat can handle (the motor is 243 kilos which should be aprox 515 pounds. Is this to heavy? I will not have the oppurtunity to try it before buying it so I must be pretty sure. The price is right so thatfor I want to be absolutely certain before I turn it down. I really want the boat to go faster, raise faster out of the water and pull me on one ski while loading the rest of the family without question. The old one is an old and tired Mariner 135 which came with the boat.
Appreciate your help as before - have a nice weekend!

Guys, mine is 20" shaft and weighs 217kg or 478lbs...dependin' on shaft length, the 225 E-Tec is 234kg/516lbs for short shaft...238kg/524lbs for a 25" shaft, so question now is what transom height is the '88 you have?

I THINK I remember seein' the Max HP rating on that hull as being 235 or so...that leads me to ask what did an Evinrude 235 in 1988 weigh?...my BIL has one of that vintage and it's a BIG motor, but I don't know if it's the same block as Skool's 225s or not...hey Skools...whassat 225 weigh?...

Stay with us, Anders...we'll get ya an answer... ;) ...here's the good news...if yer gettin' a really good price on it and it turns out to be TOO heavy, you can sell it and MAKE a few bucks :D ...

God I love the Internet and I really enjoy your help. Reelapeelin, the figures you gave me show me the right direction here I think. If your Honda is 478 and the E-tec is 516, I guess the difference should not sink the boat. Itīs a 20". Thanks again, I let you know what happens. If my kids can teach me to post a picture I will show you the beauty.

lumberslinger178 Just added a 2007 200 HP E-Tec and I am sure they are near the same weight, so I say there is no problem as long as you know that your transom is all good.

All these E tec I am so Jelious!!
