| Re: Bearing Question

Hello again, I just finished repacking the wheel bearings and gave her a test drive...( i also fixed the brakes so they work!) what temp should the hubs be at, I've never had trailer brakes so I'm not sure if the hubs/drums will be warmer than without the brakes. I can hold my hand in each hub for a while, my digital thermometer says one side is abouit 99 degrees, the other is nearly 120 degrees after a 15 mile trip with moderate brake use. Any ideas?? thanks |

I'd be takin' a close look at that HOT side, Brian...you might have a shoe draggin' or somethin'...are those brakes adjustable(hope so)...make sure they're adjusted properly...make sure tires are properly inflated...you could use HIGH-TEMPERATURE grease, but that's treatin' the symptom, not the cause...good luck with it...
