The bi-catch laws need to be changed.

Here in Va for Rock fish they have a number count and not a weight limit. What do you think happens with the smaller dead rock fish? They get chunked back over in hopes of catching bigger fish that brings in more money.

ive been a commercial shrimper here in the south all of my life (until katrina) and though we have way different species of fish then you guys up north our bi-catch laws suck to. i love boating and sport fishing so i see both sides of this subject. we have a # limit on several diff species of fish that it is just ridiculous. ive been on a 5 day trip where i would meet the quota given by the state of MS in 2 drags and for the next 4.5 days throw the rest of the fish overboard. DEAD. dont get me wrong we would try and save what we could but it is impossible to save a significant amount of anything. since i lost my boat due to the storm and NO-ONE helped me or my family ( meaning the coast gaurd even though they promised, the state even though they promised, the federal govt. and fema even though they promised) so now im just a happy sport fisherman who enjoys being on the water for recreational purposes. down here commercial fishing is a dying industry so we wont have to worry about it to much longer anyways.
