Cape Cod is in the rain right now!! Pouring rain that is!! Thery say that the snow will be coming tomorrow for the NE
Caoe Cod is not included in the snow, what ever we get will be washed away as the 39* ocean water will keep us to warm. But inland may get up to 12"?? Hammer, I have replaced a tilt motor with out removing the motor, but it is tricky!! Cause the only thing holding the motor is 2 bolts on one side with one side plate, If not careful you can and will break the cast alum, and find the motor on the ground!! But it can be done, I did it!!

Hammer, do you really want to know how to pull that trim motor :o Just cause the relays click doesn't mean they work. Bypass those puppy's and see what happens first.
In order to removing the tilt / trim motor you have to remove the starbboard side motor bracket. It's not that the job is that bad, its the stuck fasteners that can be a problem. I will say that on my 88', I R&R'ed the whole hydraulic assembly with few issues. Nothing was frozen. Just be glad your not working on a 80's Yammy.

you need to determine if it is a 3 wire motor or a two wire motor, if its a three wire motor, it will have one for up( blue), one for down( green), and one for ground(black). Go to the relays and check for voltage coming out of the relay when its ingaged(cehck the blue when triimng up, green while down). If its a two wire, not only do you need to check for voltage, you need to check the other lead for aground( the two wire doesn't have a dedicated ground wire, it operates thru the relay not being used, it has a normal path to ground, if you don't have the path to ground, you can suppply it witih all the power and it will never work

I'm no expert . . . but it looks like a three wire setup to me. All the two wire units I've seen have wires coming out of the motor like a cord to a lamp in your living room.
Spares is the pro here . . . I've got both 2 and 3wire setups in my garage right now. I was able to tilt a two wire style up and down (for ebay pics) just buy connect them to a battery pack. There may be different types of two wire setups . . . but that worked for me. Up = (positive to positve, negative to negative) and then reversing polarity to tilt down Down = (negative to positive, positive to negative). -------------------------------------------------------------- Forget what I said in the PM. I just look at my 3 wire deal in that garage and I'm 99.9% sure you have to pull the motor off the boat to get that trim motor off. Like airslot said you need clearance to get the motor out . . . removing the right side bracket sounds like an option, but I'm not sure it's any easier than pulling the motor. --------------------------------------------------------------- Hopefully it's just a low battery, loose ground or bad relays.
