Welcome to the site.
Post pictures.
Yes you can (used to) get good results with automotive paints, have to ask what is still available (EPA).
Try useing a paint remover such as Strip-Eze and plastic scrapper and then water sanding with sponge sanding blocks and then filling exposed glass with MarineTex and then buffing and waxing.
Also experiment with spray Rustoleum if only small area's really need painting.
You'll be surprised how good the Rustoleum works.
