Default Looking for guidance

I recently found a '72 V20 Steplift for sale, the guy is just looking to get rid off it, I am sure I can drive off for less then $750 (if the trailer is roadworthy). The boat looks like it has some serious cleaning to be done, lots of mold and crap growing on it from sitting under some trees. The motor is seized and the trailer looks OK from the pics and he says there are no soft spots in the floor. Besides a solid transom what else should I be looking for? If it was any real significant amount of money I would get a survey, but I don't see the point of surveying a boat this cheap. What is the potential for something like this?

Thanks for any help/guidance, I have been searching a lot of old threads and found some good info on here.

Sounds like me.... ::)

Only difference is, the trailer is rebuilt like new, transom rebuilt, new stainless hardware everywhere, and you can't get mine for less than $750. * ;D

Outboard. I am really hoping he will just be happy to have it out of the yard, FREEBIE! If thats the case I will be backing the car up the trailer before he can say another word. How is access to the gas tank, are they burried and fiberglassed in or pretty easy to replace?

Good luck on your find!!...hope it turns out to be solid and free!! 8) ...the '72 originally had twin saddle tanks, 20 gals ea. under each gunwale; very easy to get to...other items you'll want to check on are sliding front hatch, all 5 windows and is the cap well secured to the hull ... keep us posted ;) ...

I bought my 79 for $350. *It came with a brand new bimini top and a 1995 Trailer. I didnt think it was going to be too big of a project but like all other project boats it turned out to be a huge undertaken. I eventually stripped it and took it o the dump. Look at the cost of a good used motor and the amount of money its going to take to get her ready for the water. Unless you enjoy working on a project boat there are alot out there right now in much better shape with older power for around $3000-4000.
