Default Gel coat repair or other???

I've done a glass transom build up on my CC. three layers of glass. Stripped the form and glass bondo the joint. I've sanded it down but I'm not really sure what to finish with. I thought I would gel coat but I can't find anything but gel coat repair kits. I've got an area about 60" wide by 6" that are now bondo. Any ideas?
I'll add my ongoing photos to my gallery when I get home from work on Wed.

Mike

Default Re: Gel coat repair or other???

I'd use gelcoat and try to match the hull color.
First make sure the repair area is prep. It should be slightly lower than the surrounding glass to accomidate the gelcoat that you are going to put on . . . There are several companies that match gelcoat (i.e. mini-craft). Once you have the gelcoat, get 80 - 100 grit paper and rough up the repair area. Acetone the reapir section, tape off, and roll or spray on the gelcoat. 3 or 4 coats then apply a coat of PVA. Once the area is dry sand, wash off the PVA with water, if the gelocat had wax added then remove the wax with acetone, then sand, sand, sand with 320, 600, wetsand, buff and wax. Then your done!!!

I got a great little ryobi random orbital sander with the vacuum attachment for $50 at the Home Depot. This tool is amazing for taking out drips and orange peel areas in paint or gelcoat.
