Default jackplates

well i'm starting to have second thoughts on buying that mariner 115 for $2000, i dont want to pay more than $1600 for it.....i called a local mercury dealer and ran the s/n he told me it was purchased on 9-7-91 by K .Bassnight, never had warranty issue..i thought it was atleast a 1993..dang thing is 16yrs old

tommorow i'm going pick up a FREE motor that runs/good compression but has some cooling issues....its a 93' johnson 140hp but its a 25" and my boat is a 20"....if i could fix the cooling issues with it and use it on my boat that would be great...

only way to do this would be to convert it too a 20" or use a jackplate or bracket, i'm thinking brackets cuz its cheaper than a jackplate......what the pros and cons to using a jackplate/bracket? do you think this would be a issue for my 8?

V18 is rated for 150hp...140 is under but i'm worried about weight issues now....my force was approx 300lbs...nada says the 140 is 360-370lbs.......think this would cause problems? i could move one or both batteries under the console to relieve some weight from back of boat to help out...what ya'll think?

i think the bracket would be WAY more expensive that a jack plate. if ur concerned about wieght, then brack is definently not the way to go. i saw in the picture deshet posted of the 150 hehas for sale that it was mounted on a jack plate. might wanna talk to him about selling. if not, a new one would only set you back a coulpe hundred bucks. thats for a good one. unless you want a hydraulic one. then ur lookin at 7-800 bucks. still cheaper than a bracket. those start around 14-1500 new.

nope i like a 25 inch motor on a 20 inch transom with a jack plate. They give you a better hole shot and faster plane. plus when you tilt it all the way up the whole motor is out of the water on a jack plate.
