Rap, you can jig em up with heavy metal, you can throw plastics at em, or you can troll em up. Now my dream is to be in the right place at the right time, cause every year down there some poor soul hooks a 300 - 1000# BFT on Striper gear. It usually only takes a second or so for the reel to explode ;)

Cy, you could definately fish with me. I got a feeling the family would tag along and hang around Nags Head during fishin hours to make sure I didn't get too stupid after dark ;). Have to see how that will work out. Either way, my boat and trailer are both ready for the road. Enclosure guy coming today, but I dont know what I'm gonna do for certain. Something tells me that over the next 2500 miles or so I may see sumpin exciting 8)

Yep many ways to catch em.

First step is finding them. Here's how we find em: We read the report at www.oregon-inlet.com. We ask around the dock to see where the bite has been recently. North or south and how far? Once we have a general idea the next day we will head in that direction stopping occasionally to look for birds/marks. If no birds/marks keep on gettin it until we see birds/marks or the armada of boats! We went over 30 miles north on one trip and I've had friends that went over 40 in one direction to catch fish in an outboard. We keep spinning outfits ready with top water stuff and bucktails. The swim shad soft baits work pretty good. Metal works also. What we usually do is troll around using Mann's stretch 30's deep diving lures. 4 or 5 rods out with the back 2 wb and wwb. When we find concentrated fish we might stop and jig some bucktails. When we find em busting the top we stop and cast too! ;D Optimum trolling speed with the stretches has been around 5 - 5.5mph for us. Colors I like for Mann's stretch 30's are: Blue/Chrome Black/Chrome Black/Gold Red/White (old standby) Welp, that's how we do it and it seems to work for us! Hope it helps. Blue

Headed south Friday afternoon I think. Enclosure guy coming today. If he gives me the right deal I may go with it, or wait till I get back. Heck, the new enclosure will fit a V-21 just as good, right? Wifey has stated that we will be looking along the way. Who knows?

Hey guys for those of you who are not familiar with oregon inlet use extreme caution. Oregon is one of the most unpredictable and dangerious inlets on the east coast. It can be dead calm in the morning and by noon be a raging cauldron. To be honest I would give a lot of thought of running a v20 out of oregon in the winter especially if you don't know local waters. Want to fish for stripers charter a boat. About ten years ago was on a 31 shamrock grandslam ran the inlet in the morning came back in around 2pm seas were running so hard that one wave turned the boat almost over broke the windshield and knocked a gen set loose. Len Belcaro who is the publisher of offshore journal related to me a story of a 50 footer geting a windshield blowout and almost sinking . Ever wonder why the carolina built boats have glassed in deck house fronts. Yes, the rockfishing is great but it can and does get quite exciting especially if a east wind is blowing on a strong ebb tide. IN MY OPINION NOT A GOOD IDEA. If you want to winter rock fish run up to the bay bridge fishing is just as good and a lot safer.

Over the years there have been many boats to capsize there. Every winter right around November you start hearing about them. But the only boats I've heard of having problems were trying to fish the shoals. Talk about dangerous. With the water ripping through there all you have to do is take your eyes away for one second and you are in trouble! They end up hitting the bar with a big roller slamming them over. I do NOT fish the shoals. I go in and out of the inlet.

And I do agree that you have to use extreme caution.
