And if your main motor is further back on a bracket it works very well, I've been on boats that had a standard mount outboard and used the big motor to steer a kicker and it worked but slowly, on Old School it actually steers like it was hooked directly to the kicker, I was pleasantly surprised.
In answer to the question yes they make a steering connector and it snaps on and off easily. Guys snap them on and off all the time, mostly for transport purposes but it works well for any reason.
