175 and 150 are the same motors and weigh the same in most cases. So it really doesn't matter which one you use.
Why would you cut down the transom any way?? Just use what the boat was made for 20 or 25. And if it is a 25" and you have a 20" motor they sell spacer kits or you can get a lower unit from a 25 and add to your 20. Just a thought? I just think anyone who cuts the ransom down is looking for trouble.
